Ex-Police Cadets
Association of NSW

Bumper Attendance at AGM Posted: Thursday, May 17, 2012
A bumper crowd attended the Association's Annual General Meeting on Thursday (17 May) at the City of Sydney RSL Club.

This followed what was termed as a rather poor turnout last year.  It was explained that following an appeal to members requesting that they show more interest in the Association's activities, that the request obviously had an effect.

President, Don Kell, gave a verbal report where he outlined the organisation's activities for the year including the successes and those that were not as popular.

Nevertheless, those who attended spoke in glowing terms of the potential of the Ex NSW Police Cadet Association and what it can achieve in the forthcoming years.

President Kell made this point quite clear:  He reiterated that by the nature of the Association's members and unavoidable attrition, it had a limited life span and that members should make every endeavour to exploit and enjoy the friendships, where possible.

The Secretary/Treasurer, Ian Moore, presented a detailed report on the finances of the Association.  He said the only issue was that spending on the 2011 annual get together was a little higher than anticipated.  He further reported that the Association had a strong balance but it spending needed to be closely monitored and, where possible, income increased.

The following were elected to the committee:

   * President     -     Don Kell
   * Secretary/
     Treasuer      -     Ian Moore
   * Historians    -     Bruce Howe
                           -     Robert Longbottom
   * Committee persons:
                           -      Steve Matthews
                           -      Ian Granland OAM
                           -      Dave Ferguson
                           -      John Clarke
                           -      Dick Hurst
                           -      Keith Thoms

A number of new faces were elected to the committee, several of whom raised some very interesting subjects following the election.

The meeting further resolved that:

——~  A new website be installed and the ex-cadets' details as shown on 'roll call' etc. will be modified.  This website will be more flexible with better access by members.
~  The Association sponsors, as appears on the website, will be reviewed.
~  An endeavour will be made to ascertain those members who have passed away and remove their names from the active list. It was explained that in many cases, the Association received no information with regards to the passing of some members.
~  Members will be asked to pay an additional $10 to supplement Association funds to ensure the stability of the organisation.
~  The 2012 annual get together function will this year be held on 17 October at the City of Sydney RSL Club.
~  Planning will commence shortly regarding the organisation and arrangements for the 80th Anniversary of the NSW Police Cadets.  It was agreed that the venue used for the 75th Anniversary would be appropriate for this event.
~  Disappointment was shown at the lack of recognition of the existence of the police cadets in the 150th Year Celebrations of the NSW Police Force. It was noted that a mobile exhibition of the history of the force would be on display at the Police and Justices Museum and would rotate around several NSW country centres.
~  At the expiration of the Association's mobile internet account in September, a cheaper rate would be sought.

New member, Alan Hunter, cadet number 2619, was made welcome in his first attendance at an ex-cadet function.

There being no further general business the meeting was closed at 1.10pm with the subsequent committee meeting to be advised.
